Data that tells a clear story
Nearly 30 years of corporate experience, now working for you. I turn complex data into decisions — and decisions into results.
A businessperson first, analyst second
Tom McTague
With nearly 30 years in business across marketing, financial services, and technology, I've learned that data is only valuable when it drives action. I built my career understanding what leadership actually needs — and now I'm putting that expertise to work for businesses like yours.
I hold a business degree from the Ivey Business School at Western University, and I bring a rare combination of corporate rigour and clear, compelling communication to every engagement.
I work best with small to mid-sized businesses that have data but don't have a dedicated analytics team — organizations that know there are insights hidden in their numbers, but need the right person to surface them.
Sample Work
City of Toronto
Purchasing Card Spending Analysis
This sample project uses publicly available data from the City of Toronto and presents key insights in a simple one-page dashboard format.
A small amount of data cleansing was performed to prepare the source data for analysis and presentation, including aggregating merchant names (for example, removing store numbers so that “The Home Depot #1234” rolls up to “The Home Depot”) and cleaning up and consolidating division names.
All visuals shown on this report are standard Power BI elements. Clicking on the buttons, drop-down menu items, or visual elements will filter the other elements of the report to provide contextual detail.
New York City Taxi Insights
This much more visually bold, multi-page report uses high-impact visuals aligned with NYC and other brand standards, and incorporates several custom visual elements.
While admittedly a bit ‘over the top’ visually, this report is intended to showcase the creativity that can be incorporated into interactive reports and dashboards.
This report is based on publicly available NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission data, comprised of almost 30 million rows of trip details, as well as other open-source rideshare information. A significant amount of data cleanup and normalization was required to make the information usable for this report, such as replacing missing and clearly incorrect dollar amounts with imputed values calculated using accurate data elsewhere in the file.
